Thursday September 28
Hello kiddos and families!
Please note, there is NO SCHOOL on Friday September 29th in recognition of the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
Important notes for next week:
IN-LINE SKATING STARTS on Monday October 2nd!!!!!!!! Do not be late! We skate first thing in the morning.
Today was Orange Shirt day at Northern Lights. In addition to our curricular school work, we also spent time reflecting, reading the poem for My Nieces by Makayla Webkamigad, tying orange ribbons to the fence with our grade 2 buddies as well as walking through the outdoor timeline and book walk.
The Grade 5s shared many thoughtful observations as well as experienced some new learnings. They were (for the most part) excellent big buddies to their grade 2 friends.
As part of our actions for Reconciliation, we are also committing to learning about Indigenous brilliance. We learned a little bit of Notorious Cree (James Jones) who is a famous Traditional Hoop Dance artist who has many notable accolades such performing with Snoop Dogg and K-os as well as has been spreading cultural knowledge on Tiktok and instagram. We also took a look at the art work of Anishinaabe visual artist Luke Swinson who created the Every Child Matters Art work in our classroom.
Please check out some photos from today as well as Makayla's poem, For My Nieces
